I'M A CAREER COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, mostly in newspaper news reporting and production but in latter years I've also studied and now practise web content creation, web strategy and usability, with a focus on search engine optimisation.This year I founded community news website NorthernLife.com.au, to bring a higher standard of experienced and trusted local news reporting to the northeastern suburbs of Brisbane. I edit, manage and maintain the site - and take photos!Almost 130,000 Brisbanites live in the suburbs that NorthernLife.com.au services. That's a suburban footprint bigger than many of the large coastal cities along the Queensland coast that support their own daily newspaper.Before NorthernLife.com.au, Northeasterners were without a proper digital source of local news.A year prior, I founded (and still compile) Waiting Rooms News, a distillation of the top news stories of the week under the headings Australia, World, Health, Entertainment, Business, Science and Technology.It is designed as an easy-to-read distraction for people waiting at medical centres (doctors, pathologist, radiologists, dentists) and cafes - basically anywhere large groups of Northeasterners are kept waiting. No more tatty 18-month-old Woman's Days for them!When I'm not working on NorthernLife.com.au and Waiting Room News, I help businesses to own great websites that persuade visitors and compel them to action, and that rank well in Google searches through search engine optimisation.I remember the buzz when my first website client - a remedial massage therapist - rang to say she had started booking jobs from the website.And then the site hit No.1 for the SEO keywords I chose, and so a steady flow of enquiries was guaranteed for her.
