Founder of a DSP/mixed-signal design house turned fabless semiconductor company.Recruited all engineering management and key technical personnel, and managed Cicada as a design consulting and technology licensing company through its first four years of existence. After its first year of business with a small operating loss, the firm had record profitability and growth for three subsequent years culminating in 1999 with $3M in annual sales with a gross pre-tax profit margin of 45%.Subsequently set the vision for Cicada’s Gigabit Ethernet product strategy and raised $36M of equity funding to fund the transition to being a full-fledged fab-less semiconductor company. Recruited key management and staff for marketing, applications, sales, and manufacturing. Led the company through its first complete product development, the CIS8204, which began alpha sampling in May 2001 and first customer shipments in December 2001. Peak head count was 70 personnel.As CTO, I was responsible for overall product strategy and technology direction, and managing key research and development activities for long term product development. Cicada was acquired by Vitesse Semiconductor in February 2004 for $66M.

Founder of mixed-signal semiconductor company.Started the company and grew it to 17 design engineers including analog, DSP, software, and digital designers. I was responsible for all operational details of the company including financial, legal, personnel, CAD software/hardware, and facilities. I also negotiated key customer contracts and recruited high-level technical and management personnel. Oasis Design was merged with Silicon System in 2000, and the merged entity Oasis Silicon Systems was acquired by Standard Micro Systems in March 2005 for $135M.

Lead a group of eleven engineers designing DSP and data converter products for the wireless market. Responsible for all aspects of building this business for Crystal: technology direction, product definition, customer contract negotiation, recruiting, system design, circuit design, layout, and production test development.

DSP/analog systems architect on the fully integrated U transceiver, a 160 kbit/sec full-duplex modem over standard twisted pair for ISDN. I designed the algorithms for timing estimation, timing recovery, and decimation for the delta-sigma A/D converter. Contributed to the design of the linear and non-linear echo cancellers and channel equalizer. This work culminated in two signal processing patents.
