About Nicky Forster, Cva

My passion is to reframe community involvement as a core part of modern life, building resilient communities to face VUCA futures. I've just completed a community-led capacity-building and disaster preparedness project in rural Nillumbik Shire, on secondment from my ‘real’ job in volunteer development. I’ve had the better part of a decade in volunteer leadership and community development, with a focus on inclusion, equity, and stewarding Country, and it’s been exciting to apply myself recently to the pressing challenge of preparedness.As an ex-radio producer, I love a good yarn and I know well that all people have unexpected strengths ready to draw out with the right technique.I bring an interdisciplinary approach to community engagement, grounded in both academic and practical experience in human geography, environmental science, arts and media production, governance and community development. I have led innovative and collaborative volunteer engagement strategies, advocacy and policy leadership, compliance and governance clarity, and inspiring impact storytelling. I am proud of my work as a leader in the volunteer sector, and of the positive outcomes that volunteers achieve for themselves and their communities.
