A nonprofit startup focused on helping seniors “Age in Place” by developing software technology to support seniors who are creating neighborhood 'Villages' in support of the Village Movement model. The founders, prior colleagues, recruited me to conduct extensive market research and interviews resulting in a comprehensive understanding of market needs. Taking the perspective of the user into consideration and identifying industry gaps I developed a new product vision. I synthesized the extensive data collected into product requirements, and ultimately a roadmap, along with product positioning and a comprehensive market plan.

B2eMarkets was an eCommerce startup creating eSourcing solutions for Fortune 500 companies. I was an integral participant on a core team designing a new product to create a collaborative web-based sourcing manager. Obtained detailed understanding of market needs from interviews with Fortune 500 companies; translated product vision and user needs into detailed product requirements as well as an interactive working demo. B2e was eventually acquired by a competitor specifically for this patented application. Areas of responsibility encompassed market research, collaborating with cross functional teams, product launches, prioritization of functionality in iterative releases, product positioning and sales materials.

Product manager for the VM product line which included systems management and web server products. The responsibilities of this role included creating product requirements, cross-functional team collaboration, product launches, product presentations, hosting teleconferences, product positioning, as well as providing sales training and support. An in-depth market research project, interviewing over 100 customers, resulted in a strategic plan to reposition the web server product to the Web-to-Host market. This also required the creation and execution of a plan to reach a new target market. A highlight of this role was touring with IBM and presenting at conferences around the country to educate the audience on product opportunities that Sterling Software provided.

Managed an e-commerce product line for performance management software. Developed product requirements, product roadmaps and created marketing plans for the e-commerce product solution. Responsible for the planning and co-ordination of product launches, product presentations at trade shows and conferences, press contacts, training materials and sales support.

Origin Labs is a scientific graphing software solution used by scientists worldwide. I was integrally involved in the growth of this start-up software company from 3 employees to 50. I held a variety of responsibilities, as the company quickly grew, including the development and execution of marketing plans, building and maintaining the international and US distribution channels, partner relationships, strategic product alliances, and the planning for product release roll-outs. Additionally, I was responsible for the office administration and directly managed a staff of 30.
