About Nicole Hicks

I am an action-taker. This is likely why one of my favorite sayings is “don’t talk about it, be about it.” I don’t believe that I can be an effective leader if I sit in an office making decisions in a vacuum. I believe in talking to my people, understanding how they do their jobs so that I know what resources, skills and training they need and can effectively advocate for them. I have found that understanding and empathizing with your employees' challenges allows you to inspire them to view these challenges as opportunities and to empower them by being a supportive and encouraging leader. You will see in my experience detailed below that I have been in the human resources management (HRM), talent management, training and development, risk analysis, change management, DE&I, and project management (PM) fields for most of my career in the United States Air Force. As my career progressed I was consistently selected to take on bigger programs that impacted more people. I have managed staffing allocation and succession planning for 15K USAF employees, I have directly advised c-suite executive leaders and directly led teams of up to 74 professionals to ensure consistent interpretation and application of company guidance, laws, and policy and most recently, I guided more than 120 training courses that were delivered to 45K employees every year to ensure our workforce was trained and ready for success. One of the other highlights of my career was the 2 years I managed employee onboarding, succession, retention, and workplace culture for our new USAF service members as their first exposure to the military. Every 8 weeks, we welcomed an average of 700 new diverse recruits and being able to shape their impression of the Air Force and whether they felt included, respected and welcomed was an important part of my job. The bottom line is that I have been compared to a bulldog when it comes to advocating for my people, I am tenacious, resourceful and don’t let go until an issue is resolved. I look forward to contributing in areas such as talent management, HRM, risk analysis, training and development, DE&I, or PM leadership roles. My goal is to help my next employer shape a positive and empowered data-driven work-culture. I can be reached at nicole.d.hicks.20@gmail.com to discuss any opportunities where you believe I can add value to the team.

I oversee 122 courses, including 25 that provided career certifications, that are taught in locations spread across 5 states. These courses provided annual education, training and certification for 45K employees. Managing the $10K budget to complete this project, I ensured employees had the resources to take ownership of their career. ➥ Overseeing safety prevention and training programs, I reviewed course catalogs, managed resources, staffing and course schedules and identified new resources such as 3D/4D simulators that enhanced training quality.➥ I directly created, implemented, and advised executive leaders on the Air Force's "Fast Track" Naturalization process This process creates the opportunity for Airmen from foreign countries to become United States Naturalized Citizens. I utilized the interpretation of HR laws such as EEO, FMLA and ADA. I clearly and frequently conveyed policies, procedures and regulations.➥ In August of 2022, I was selected as a TEDx co-speaker. Overseeing the training instruction, I audited the quality of training programs and ensured the instructors had the resources they needed for success.➥ During new hire orientation, I clearly conveyed expectations and standards. I oversaw student performance and handled escalated issues. ➥ I gained funding approval for female-focused gear that improved fit, comfort and support for female training instructors and created a culture of inclusion. ➥ After I proposed and implemented fully integrated training classes that were previously gender segregated, sexual assault cases decreased by 10% and class failures decreased by 30%. ➥ I achieved a 98%+ retention rate by proactively reducing burnout, promoting individual recognition and creating professional development opportunities for 670 USAF instructors.➥ Building international relations, I provided DE&I training for 32 Colombian Army leaders and created a plan to safely receive Afghan refuges to the unit with less than 72 hours’ notice.
