When qualified for and residing in public housing, it should be apparent that there are many other resources you need other than a roof over your head. As the Self-Sufficiency Coordinator, we hold it imperative that these needs are met and enable our participants to reach for the stars and move beyond basic survivial.Public housing was not created as permanent housing, it was designed to be transitional in assisting people as they move up the social ladder. By encouraging our residents through programs like FSS, Supportive Services and ARRO, we are showing them a) that we want them to acheive higher things, and b) that we are invested in their long-term well-being. Through goal-setting, referrals to community agencies, and support service coordinating, we make dreams a reality for anyone in housing willing to invest the time to acheive and dream big.I have been working at PHA for just a short time, and this is my first post-degree employment position. But my heart lies with people and encouraging them by any means to succeed. I hope to utilize Linkedin to get to know more about Peoria and the surrounding areas, and connect with similar-minded professionals.
