My first job was marketing- by accident. Fresh out of high school, I walked into a local Juice Bar to interview for a cashier position. A 15-minute interview turned into an hour-and-a-half conversation about my passion for their products and how more people needed to know about them and what they did – marketing. Of course, I didn’t even realize it at the time.I didn’t get the cashier position; they had something else in mind. They asked if, instead, I would be their first-ever marketing/community relations employee. I agreed and thus began the journey. That summer was a baptism of fire. Throughout the challenges I faced, my mentor’s words rang in my ears, “it is okay not to know. It’s not okay to not try.” This gave me the push to take the initiative and do the research, ask the questions, and ultimately figure it out. That summer was a success; the brand gained traction locally and established brand partnerships, so much so that talks of another location began.That summer catalyzed my career and informed my personal commitment to people. This trajectory of self-discovery has grown with each new role and opportunity I have explored. This innate curiosity and care for people led me to manage a marketing team directly out of college. This was an immense honor and one that informed my path moving forward. Since that first team, I have led many others and find each as rewarding as the last. My genuine care for people and passion for marketing has kept me in a marketing and project leadership role—aspects I want to remain part of my day-to-day responsibilities as I move forward in my career.I am always interested in people’s personal stories of finding their niche.
