Nicole Gilbert is a dynamic and analytical graduate from the University of Iowa, where she earned a B.A. in History and Psychology, with a minor in International Relations and a certificate in Public Health. Throughout her academic and professional journey, Nicole has cultivated a deep passion for addressing critical global challenges, particularly those related to human rights, climate change, and sustainable development in the Global South.Nicole’s research interests span a broad spectrum, from the intricacies of peacebuilding in African civil wars to the impact of the Global North’s involvement in critical mineral sourcing within the Global South. She is especially focused on how ethical supply chains and sustainable development practices can be advanced within this context, as well as the broader implications for global economic and environmental security.Most recently, Nicole has expanded her expertise through several research and programmatic roles, supporting projects focused on international security, climate resilience, and the intersection of technology and foreign policy. She has provided research support on critical mineral security in Africa, exploring how global power competition and the green transition intersect with supply chains, resource governance, and local economies. Nicole has also led and contributed to writing reports on U.S.-China trade competition and the green transition, where she analyzed green protectionism in the context of great power competition.In addition to her research experience, Nicole has engaged in program coordination and administrative roles, where she has managed events, supported grant proposals, and tracked policy developments on issues ranging from energy security to global health. Her recent work in U.S.-China diplomacy explored the role of non-traditional diplomatic engagements, such as cultural and educational exchanges, in shaping bilateral relations.As she continues to build her career, Nicole is eager to contribute her skills and knowledge to roles that align with her passions for sustainable development, ethical resource management, and advancing human rights.
