As a Summer Ambassador for Oakland Lacrosse Club, I had the opportunity to coach lacrosse to children at Oakland Recreational Summer Camps. This role allowed me to share my passion for the sport with a new generation of players and help them develop their skills and love for the game. Working alongside my peers, I was responsible for devising practice plans and implementing them during the camp sessions. This required strong communication skills, teamwork, and a deep understanding of the fundamentals of lacrosse. Through this experience, I gained valuable coaching experience and honed my leadership skills. I also had the satisfaction of seeing the children I worked with improve and grow in their abilities and confidence on the field.

As a research intern with the John W. Gardner Center at Stanford, I had the opportunity to work on a research-action project focused on improving academic performance in Oakland community high schools through wellness and program implementations.In this role, I played an integral part in the data collection and analysis. One of my key responsibilities was to gather interviews with high school students in the Oakland community. This involved reaching out to schools and coordinating with educators and administrators to gain access to students and ensure that our data collection methods were ethical and effective. Through interviews and data gathering, we gained a deeper understanding of the emotional, physical, and mental health-related issues that impacted student success. Once we had collected the data, my team and I worked to analyze it and identify the key barriers that were holding students back from academic success. We then compiled our findings into a comprehensive presentation that included data visualizations, insights, and recommendations for the Oakland Unified School District. This required strong critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as the ability to clearly communicate our findings and proposals to stakeholders.Through this experience, I developed valuable soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. I also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of data-driven decision-making and the impact it can have on student success. This research internship allowed me to contribute to meaningful work that has the potential to positively impact the lives of students in the Oakland community. As a Youth Advocate with the East Bay Asian Youth Center (EBAYC), I played an important role in promoting the health and wellbeing of students in my school's community.One of my key responsibilities was to create incentives for students to get vaccinated, wear masks, and stay sanitized. This involved working closely with school administrators and health professionals to design programs and campaigns that could encourage students to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In addition to this, I also led and facilitated school-wide events aimed at promoting health and wellness. This included organizing community building events, coordinating mental health workshops, and creating opportunities for students to engage in physical activity and mindfulness exercises.As a Youth Advocate, I was also responsible for supporting my peers in one-on-one mental health check-ups. This required strong interpersonal skills, as well as a deep understanding of the nuances of mental health and wellness. By providing a supportive and non-judgmental space for my peers to talk about their struggles and concerns, I was able to make a positive impact on their lives and help them feel more connected to their community.I am proud to say that I was able to fulfill this role while maintaining good grades in school. This required strong time management and organizational skills. Overall, my time as a Youth Advocate with EBAYC was a deeply rewarding experience that allowed me to develop important skills in leadership, community building, and mental health advocacy.

As an intern in the Rose Foundation Environmental Justice Academy program, I gained valuable insights into the ways in which environmental factors can impact communities, particularly in Oakland. Over the course of the 6-week program, I participated in a variety of workshops and activities aimed at deepening my understanding of environmental justice issues and advocating for change in my community. I gained valuable knowledge about the ways in which environmental factors can impact health and wellbeing. This included learning about the importance of access to healthy food options, the impact of air pollution on respiratory health, and the ways in which climate change can exacerbate existing health disparities. This knowledge has not only informed my own understanding of environmental justice issues but has also allowed me to be a more informed and effective advocate for my community.One of the key components of the program was environmental justice advocacy. This involved learning how to effectively communicate with stakeholders and decision-makers, as well as developing strategies for raising awareness and driving positive change in the community. Through my participation in this program, I developed strong skills in advocacy and public speaking, as well as a deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of those around me.
