I protected the child with severe autism spectrum disorder from self-injurious behaviors and others from outward aggressive behaviors on community outings. As a respite caregiver with this family, I engaged children in various activities, such as crafts, outdoor games, cooking, and cleaning. I emphasized the importance of mental health and self-care to help the children refocus during the various therapeutic and calming activities that I engaged with the children in. I also developed a deeper understanding for trauma and the brain and used that understanding to mentor five children and adolescents who previously suffered abuse and neglect at a young age to help them prosper. In addition, I responded to and calmed aggressive outbursts using safety protocol taught by the family when child with severe trauma was triggered.

I also collaborated with patients and volunteers while horse-handled and side-walked during therapy sessions. Through this opportunity, I worked along side Speech and Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists and interacted with clients with a range of abilities.

In this position, I worked as a team to assist customers to find their preferred type of blueberry. Other tasks we completed for the upkeep of the blueberry bushes included pulling weeds, pruning plants, and picking blueberries. I also drove a large tractor for mowing and used a weed whacker to cut weeds. Overall, I assisted the owner in providing high quality organic blueberries to local families.
