Broad and dynamic in its scope, my career reflects a passion for education, heritage, arts and culture, and a commitment to values of equality, diversity, inclusion, antiracism and decolonisation. I hold a PhD in American Studies, along with a First Class Honours degree in English and American Literature and a Master of Arts (with Distinction) in Eighteenth-Century Studies. With a professional background in Higher Education, research administration, grants advice and offender interventions, I offer a diverse portfolio of skills that reflect my scholarly and professional dexterity, but also my commitment to engaged work that is community-driven and upheld by ethics of social justice. I have won a host of prestigious and highly competitive grants and awards and in 2019 won a prestigious Leverhulme Trust Early Career Research fellowship to conduct an independent research project on women in the Haitian Revolution at the University of Central Lancashire's Institute for Black Atlantic Research. As part of this project, I have led campaigns to mount two blue heritage plaques on the former residences of the first and only Haitian Queen, Marie-Louise Christophe, collaborated with artists, heritage specialists, community and charitable organisations and maintain a prominent role in the Haiti All-Party Parliamentary Group chaired by Lord Leslie Griffiths. I have also published articles for academic and lay audiences, produced a documentary (with over 220,000 views) and participated in interviews for television, radio and podcasts (including Dan Snow's History Hit). My work is both intersectional and interdisciplinary and I am committed to creating inclusive and accessible heritage spaces. My digital humanities project, www.fanmrebel.com, affirms this commitment.
