At the end of 1993 I compiled and presented a business plan for the magazine, identified the technology for production, set advertising rates, tendered for printers, recruited staff , bought the paper (buying paper stocks for one years’ production avoided major rises in paper prices in 1994) through to producing the first issue of The Leisure Manager in April 1994. The magazine immediately established a reputation for its editorial and soon after became a circulation (audited), advertising and financial success (first year deficit $95k rather than the projected $160k - The Leisure Manager was profitable by April 1995).
