My role was to ensure that all content was suitably engaging, entertaining, informative and on brand for each market. Working with Mazda’s Global Brand Marketing Division in Hiroshima, Japan as well as marketing, CRM and PR departments across the world, I had to come up with stories that gave over 1.5 million readers valuable insight into Mazda products and help to increase their loyalty to the brand. I managed a team of 12 in house editors and designers, alongside external suppliers for additional video and digital content creation.Having launched the magazine in 2007, I was delighted to win the APA (now CMA) Best Motoring Title Award in 2009, 2011 and 2012 having also been Highly Commended for awards in 2008 and 2010. Our digital magazines won ‘Best Motoring Title’ at the inaugural Digital Magazine Awards in 2010. I worked with Mazda’s social media teams and PR departments to tell stories across more channels and reach a wider audience. I also produced the viral hit 'Mazda2 vs The Wall of Death' (1.1 million views on YouTube and counting) which won Bronze in the Branded Entertainment category at the 2012 Lovie Awards. Zoom Zoom was the first customer title to exploit Layar AR technology, bridging the gap between print and digital media and in May 2013 we launched iPad editions in Newsstand. The 'World's Fastest: One uninvited guest' immediately went viral with over 400,000 views on YouTube in just 3 days. As an editorial consultant my clients included Redwood, BBC Worldwide, Gulf Air, Sony Computer Entertainment. During this time I did some strange things including driving the world's most dangerous road and becoming the first person ever to complete an FIA rally in a hybrid car (a Toyota Prius). I had column in the Guardian together with my pet robot dog and I also launched Top Gear Turbo - the first car magazine for kids, presented two weekly motorsport shows for Channel 4 and co-authored the fabulous, best-selling toilet read Top Gear Motor Mania.
