Computational lipidomics, FAIR data, data analysis and integration

I am the deputy project coordinator for the „Lipidomics Informatics for Life Sciences“ (LIFS) project, funded by BMBF. LIFS is associated with the German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI).

I am a post doctoral researcher in the biomarker program of ISAS within the Lipidomics research group of Dr. Robert Ahrends. I am the executive project coordinator for the BMBF Project "Lipidomics Informatics for Life Science" (LIFS). LIFS is embedded in the German network for bioinformatics infrastructure (de.NBI) and joins the expertise of three established groups in lipidomics from the Leibniz Institute for Analytical Chemistry - ISAS e.V.-, Dortmund, the Leibniz Lung Center in Borstel and the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden.My main scientific work involves the design and development of an integrated data analysis and storage platform for quantitative lipidomics data. I therefor also work actively on data standardisation for metabolomics and lipidomics with mzTab-M. This is joint work together with the HUPO Proteomics Standards Initiative (PSI), the Metabolomics Society's Standards Initiative (MSI) and the newly formed Lipidomics Standards Initiative (LSI).I furthermore develop and apply machine learning methods for mass spectrometry-based predictions of physico-chemical properties of lipid fragments based on their structural properties and other features for targeted lipidomics applications.To increase the level of understanding and to uncover associations in complex lipidomics data, I develop interactive and explorative visualisations with ggplot2 and Shiny, but also with D3 and other visualisation frameworks.Since 2017, I am a co-organizer of the annual Lipidomics Forum conference. In 2018, I was one of the main local organizers when the Lipidomics Forum was hosted by ISAS in Dortmund.I give trainings on bioinformatics for lipidomics, specifically for our own LIFS bioinformatics tools. Past trainings took place at Lipidomics Forum (annually since 2017) and the LipoSysMed (2019) summer school.
