IT Manager Mainframe Systems The mainframe is ‘Dead’ ….. Don’t you just hate that old cliché? I do! Truth be told... these machines still run a good percentage of today’s businesses. 72 percent of mainframes are experiencing a growth of 1-25 percent per year as noted by Arcati Mainframe Yearbook 2013. Where do you find the personnel these days to support these mainframe systems? This void has been created by the diminishing number of qualified mainframe personnel. My IT experience has been working solely with the mainframe computer systems, its peripherals, telecommunication links and other systems that interfaced with the mainframe including (Wintel,Unix, MQ). My experience covers the systems programming and management aspect of the mainframe including assembling sysgens for the operating systems (VSE, MVS, z/OS.. also under VM) and other IBM system support software. As expected all outstanding issues were diligently resolved along the way. I have seen and experienced a lot of the idiosyncrasies of the mainframe and I enjoy passing on my experience and success on to my technical teams. You might say I have developed a passion for working with the mainframe systems and hope its progress extends into the future.
