Starwood Hotels is a world-leading hotel and leisure company distinguished by lifestyle concepts, design leadership, and innovation. Starwood’s renowned global brands and loyalty program lie at the heart of their competitive advantage.Serving in a dual role across Operations (Change Management PMO) and IT (Enterprise PMO), I partnered with hotel management and corporate project teams to create greater alignment of solution implementations. My role was to reduce or eliminate conflicts that would otherwise hinder the successful implementation of a given project.My responsibilities included designing and implementing a tool to create greater visibility of implementations planned for any given hotel. Additionally, I needed to establish relationships with hotel leadership to drive greater communication and transparency of the high-level risks that could prevent an effective implementation.By going through an iterative development process, I enabled a tool-set that forecasted deployments and drove a reduction of conflicting concurrent deployments by 75%. Additionally, I found the need to strike a balance between leading (strategically) and managing (tactically) efforts which afforded me the opportunity to design and execute a pilot deployment plan for the first 10 Starwood hotels that would enable the hotel industry’s first keyless lock system.

Services and offerings range from contingent and permanent staffing to talent management, outsourcing, and talent development.As a member of the Business Transformation PMO, I worked with the executive leadership team and their direct reports to validate the financial viability of large transformational project investments. My role included asking profound questions and challenging assumptions to determine the likelihood of achieving financial success.My responsibilities included the creation of PMO processes that would guide current and future project teams to demonstrate that a project investment would create value. Additionally, the outputs from these new processes would provide the foundation for benefit tracking (financial and operational post-implementation success metrics).In this position, it reinforced the ideal that questioning can be valued just as much as the answers. Additionally, collaboration is required to drive the necessary ROI insights due to a varied mix of skills and knowledge needed to rationalize project investment value (analytical rigor, cognitive skills, organization understanding, situational experience).

My roles varied from individual contributor (process analyst) to team leader (program and project manager).My responsibilities were wide-ranging and included projects where I created and managed an infrastructure release management program for a client’s global data centers to managing multiple development work streams for a new e-commerce platform.

My roles progressively increased in management responsibility and I eventually became accountable for the end-to-end financial management of Consumer IT’s $1 billon budget.My primary responsibility included spend analysis and identifying opportunities to decrease costs. Besides managing monthly, quarterly and annual financial management activities (results, forecasting and budgeting), I would complete various projects that led to significant reductions in overall costs including $20M of data center savings.
