I began my career as a copy editor, writer and fact-checker in a company producing educational materials for the stock and futures industries (The Center for Futures Education). Computers were becoming a staple in business settings and I had a natural aptitude. Should have listened to my Dad!I was hired for copyediting, sales, marketing, etc. but always found myself becoming the technology guru. This resulted in my current position with Tarrant County as the supervisor for the team that manages the Tarrant County website. I have supported this website since 2001 when the first Content Management System (CMS) was implemented.All content on the Tarrant County website comes through my team. Until 2014, this team included me and one other employee. We have used the AP Style Guide since 2001 to maintain the consistency of the entire website. No small undertaking with over 150 departmental authors at this time. My team is responsible, under my leadership, to review all content for inaccuracies, standards deviations and branding inconsistencies before publishing.Although I am still very involved in the day to day activities of the web team, I was promoted into a supervisory role. This position gives me the opportunity to mentor, manage multiple projects and work closely with management in elected official offices and departments. During this time, I have written code and copy, designed and developed and supervised others to do the same. After 25 years at the county, I am beginning to think of retirement and looking forward to what challenges come next.
