Post-Doctoral Research FellowUniversity Of Kwazulu-Natal Jan 2012 - Dec 2016Pietermaritzburg Area, South AfricaI’m a plant ecologist with a research focus on plant interactions, specifically the evolutionary ecology and resource economics of plant reproductive strategies, plant-pollinator interactions, and parasitic plants. My post-doctoral research in South Africa encompassed several projects on parasitic plant reproduction, ranging from the resource economy of reproduction to determination of pollination and breeding systems, identification of phylogenetic relationships between newly discovered species (in collaboration with Dr. Florent Martos, Natural History Museum Paris), the use of molecular phylogenies to explore the evolution of reproductive traits and host specialisation, and the suitability of morphological, chemical, and ecological traits to inform taxonomy. My responsibilities as a post-doc included practical and theoretical research on plant reproduction and pollination ecology, publication of results in international journals and at conferences, writing of grant and research-permit applications for multi-year research projects and of reports for funding agencies and nature conservation agencies, development and delivery of lectures, practicals, and field trips, student supervision, training of lab- and field assistants, laboratory management (supply chain, safety, space allocation, equipment maintenance), and organization of conferences.
