Niranjan Das is an established industry leader with over 40 years of work experience across locations and technologies. He was one of the youngest Directors in Coal India Ltd, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise. He was selected by Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB)- set up with objective to advise Government of India on appointments to their top management posts, as the Director, Technical for Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) (a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd, under the Ministry of Coal) in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh at the age of 50. During his tenure, NCL saw unprecedented growth, exceptional boundary management and global recognition. In addition to this, Niranjan has also played critical roles across Coal India subsidiaries namely Central Coalfields Limited (Jharkhand), South Eastern Coalfields Limited (Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh) and the end of his tenure, Coal India Limited headquarters (Kolkata). A mining engineer and a management guru, he has been invited for leadership and management programmes at premier institutes across the world like IIM Ahmedabad, Maastricht University, Netherlands etc. More than academic trainings, Niranjan had been nominated by the company and the government to represent the entity, learn and take decisions on behalf of, across countries. For example, identified to upgrade the country on highly mechanised thick seam mining in France for 7 months, long wall underground mining training in China, a seminar in South Africa to represent Coal India, and part of the committee constituted by the Coal India Board for machine inspection in Australia, Siberia and China before procurement of HEMM (Heavy Earth Moving Machinery) by the government worth billions of dollars. He visited Australia arranged by Indian Institute of Coal Management (IICM) as part of training for directors, and Europe by Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and also received training in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF).In addition to his coal expertise, Niranjan has also extensively worked in Environment sector to create sustainable policies and practices.His expertise lies in team management and motivation, business planning with a global perspective and humane touch. After he retired from Coal India, Niranjan served as the Advisor (Coal) to Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB) for 3+ years.Currently, to serve his larger purpose in life of building a positive culture through cinema- after serving the country directly through Coal India Limited, Niranjan has joined Spherecho Productions Private Limited as Director.
