I managed Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, treasury, tax, and audit of SAP Africa's operations.A team of 10 reported to me, including 3 in Nigeria.

In this role, I had overall responsibility for all financial controlling functions, including budgeting, forecasting and various business reviews. I reported directly to the CFO and had 4 controllers reporting to me.

This role comprised a strong mixture of both accounting and controlling. I was responsible for controlling of the Africa market unit results, budgets and forecasts as well as payroll accounting, vendor payments, providing audit assistance where necessary and various ad-hoc analyses.Both IFRS and US GAAP were applied.

My responsibilities included preparation/consolidation & submission of profit forecasts, budgets, strategic plans, financial statements (when Edcon was listed), market share report, etc.The group consisted of local and foreign subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates. I was resposible for managing the consolidations, restructuring, amalgamation, unbundling, disposal and integration of new businesses.

Credit Manager was the third and final position I held at BMW SA. I was responsible for the full credit management function in the local market with 3 employees reporting directly to me.

Having out-grown my previous position (also at BMW), this was a most welcome opportunity. My responsibilities included preparation and consolidation of management reports, budgets and forecasts. This required analysis, discussions and resolution of issues arising. I also played a significant part in the financial re-engineering project which entailed the implementation of a new reporting system.

In my first post articles position, I was responsible for ensuring that inventory and production costs were correctly accounted for (standard costing). This position helped me hone my analytical and excel skills.

I was fortunate enough to serve my articles with one of the big audit firms before qualifying as a CA (SA). The role included various corporate and municipal audits.
