Responsibilities included: developing aerodynamic concepts through the design process from initial surface scheming (CATIA), through to mesh preparation (ANSA), CFD submission setup and analysis (Linux OS, EnSight) before overseeing their installation and test programme in the wind tunnel.Part of the mid-car group my work focussed on bodywork development creating cooling efficient performance parts while later projects also crossed into the sidepod leading edge area. Being a valued and flexible team player this role involved frequent wind tunnel testing often being the sole aerodynamicist on duty and therefore responsible for the oversight of the test programme, conducting analysis and tuning the run plan in order to maximise car performance within the strict confines of the FIA-mandated Aerodynamic Testing Restrictions.During my time at Mercedes I was able to produce a number of successful design concepts which were installed and raced on the full size car - something which I found extremely rewarding.

Management responsibilities include: organisation of the Aerodynamics & Bodywork, Chassis & Suspension, Driver Environment, and Unsprung Mass teams; wider systems awareness; £11,000 budget responsibility; and working with other team management pitching to sponsors, developing our Class 2 team, and working with university technicians and industrial partners.Engineering responsibilities include: production of drawings for external manufacture; manual fabrication using workshop tools, and the design of the suspension systems including a topology optimisation of the rockers (bellcranks) using Altair’s HyperWorks suite, allowing cheaper aluminium alloy to be used while improving the safety factor and manufacturability as per team requirements.

Responsibilities included: direction of the Aerodynamics & Bodywork team, coordinating with team management and preparation of technical specifications and presentations.

Responsibilities included: working on existing projects including the design of first aid storage facilities to be implemented into helicopters’ rear access ramps comprising structural analysis, cost control, and ensuring and proving regulatory compliance.
