Crisis Action is an award-winning organisation that works behind the scenes, connecting and mobilising joint action so that civilians are safer from armed conflict. We seek no public profile or media spotlight; it is the voice and influence of the coalition that matters. The model is set out in the handbook, Creative Coalitions, which I wrote.I lead our UK office as well as global campaigns that have seen real impact, including on:- Syria: hundreds of thousand of people getting aid in northern Syria for the first time- Nigeria: the impact of counter-terror operations on civilians being factored into government decision-making- South Sudan: a cessation of hostilities that saved hundreds of lives and action by a central bank to freeze war criminals' bank accounts.None of this impact was secured by one organisation or individual - it takes a host of talents to change anything. To lead those collaborations, I have: 1. Cultivated a diverse and vibrant network of organisations and senior individuals, ranging from senior political figures and journalists to PR companies to civil society organisations.2. Led campaign strategy development: using our innovative model to gather the best campaign ideas and lead the creation of bespoke coalitions capable of influencing decision-makers in even the toughest geopolitical contexts. 3. Delivered diverse, creative tactics, including media products that I wrote with political, military, and civil society leaders, a Virtual Summit, expert delegations, coalitions of high-level figures, and 3. Recruited, retained, and developed a team of ambitious change-makers, supporting their growth, resilience, and ambition.4. Successfully secured new funding and new collaborations5. This involved:- Coordinating advocacy that shaped the Security Council Resolution authorising the Regional Protection Force in South Sudan- Leading a coalition of organisations in online activism pushing for an arms embargo on South Sudan- Managing a team that led successful coalition campaigning to prevent Russia's election to the Human Rights Council- Coordinating Crisis Action's engagement around the General Assembly Leaders' Week

Democracies face many threats that digital technologies are enabling or exacerbating. Facebook, Google, Twitter have responsibilities when it comes to our rights to privacy, freedom of expression, and the franchise - but these responsibilities are ill-defined, and the companies themselves are immensely powerful in seeking to define, and minimise, their own responsibilities. To protect our democratic rights, this has to change.I am helping to set up Digital Action based on two simple premises: that the goal of strengthening democracy against digital threats cannot be achieved by any one organisation acting alone; and that we can add most to existing efforts by not seeking any public profile for ourselves, but focussing on the change we can help drive. I am on secondment from Crisis Action, bringing experience of creative coalitions to Digital Action for five months.

I led Crisis Action's work with partners and individuals around the world to address the appalling suffering caused by the conflict in Syria. We work entirely behind the scenes, coordinating and catalysing joint action such as:- A global coalition of civil society organisations, world leaders, and celebrities, organising popular mobilisation in over 40 countries and engaging people online in over 110 countries- Timely and targeted joint statements from eminent international figures, successfully influencing UN Security Council and UN agency decisions on humanitarian access.My main responsibilities included:- Developing and driving an advocacy and campaigns strategy with activities in countries around the world- Management of an international team and complex projects to deliver on time, satisfying multiple stakeholders, and achieving impact - Analysing political developments and being responsible for decision-making on how this affects our strategy and tactics- Overseeing and maintaining relations with Crisis Action's partner and network members, as well as influential individuals in politics, the media, and the creative industries who can help bring change for people in Syria

VOICE (Voluntary Organisations in Cooperation in Emergencies) is a network representing 83 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) active in humanitarian aid worldwide, who are based in 18 European countries. VOICE is the main NGO interlocutor with the European Union on emergency aid and disaster risk reduction, and it promotes the values of humanitarian NGOs.Along with the other members of VOICE’s Board of Directors, my role was to:- Ensure that VOICE adheres to its purpose and statutes. - Decide on major policy and strategic directions- Hold the organisation to account and ensure it is properly managed. - Represent the broader membership of the VOICE network
