The course is very hands-on, working directly in SSMS connected to SQL Azure. The goal of the course is to cover skills that are directly applicable in a work setting. In addition to the necessary theory (relational concepts, design, transactions, locking, indexes, backup/restore), the course thoroughly covers the data manipulation language parts of SQL: SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE. This includes outer joins, subqueries, ranking functions, working with dates/times, conversions, EXISTS, DISTINCT, LIKE, GROUP BY, HAVING, etc. This is roughly equivalent to Microsoft's first level certification in SQL."
