I work on an animal model of migraine, investigating the role played by the Na,K-ATPase. I use behavioral and molecular neuroscience to investigate how sodium disturbances underlie migraine.

Laboratory of Dr. Katumi Sumikawa (Department of Neurobiology and Behavior, UCI). I have been evaluating a transgenic rat line optimized for adenovirus-mediated neuronal gene transfer. Currently, I am conducting experiments in rodent models investigating cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying drug addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, and hippocampus-dependent learning and memory. This work is currently ongoing.

Laboratory of Dr. John Marshall (Department of Neurobiology and Behavior, UCI). I worked on two separate projects; the first examined the neuroprotective effects of voluntary and forced wheel running exercise in an animal model of Parkinson’s disease, yielding a second-author scientific journal publication. The second project, and thesis work, examined the neural circuitry underlying methamphetamine-induced neurotoxicity, yielding three first-author scientific journal publications.

Laboratory of Dr. Franklin B. Krasne (Department of Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, UCLA). I investigated central nervous system control of the tail-flip escape reflex of the crayfish, using chronically-implanted electrodes.

Laboratory of Dr. Barbara Knowlton (Department of Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, UCLA). I aided graduate student researcher investigating the role played by the pre-frontal cortex in reasoning tasks by helping create and then administering cognitive reasoning tests to undergraduate research subjects.

Laboratory of Dr. Seymour Feshbach (Department of Psychology, Clinical Psychology, UCLA). Dr. Feshbach and I created a novel diagnostic survey to assess how a person’s ethnic background and general upbringing influences their racial stereotypes. Also I administered the survey to undergraduate students, and helped analyze the results.
