Role expanded to encompass oversight of the entire Novus technology stack - both Product and Corporate IT:Major Projects Completed:- Migration from Equinix datacenter (bare-metal / vmware) to a modern, fully cloud-native platform (Kubernetes on AWS), reducing recurring technology costs by 40% while simultaneously adding another "9" of platform uptime (99.7% -> 99.9%).- Core technology change from MemSQL (SingleStore) to MySQL RDS (8.0), personally coding optimizations / rewrites to achieve similar performance using "off-the-shelf" technology.Ongoing Responsibilities:- Manage relationships with IT vendors (DBA, MSP, DevOps, CyberSecurity), providing high-level direction on projects as well as personally troubleshooting issues when needed.- Oversee $2MM / year budget encompassing AWS, licensing, SaaS and vendors.- Harden organizational CyberSecurity posture, conducting internal NIST CSF review and authoring Policy and Incident Response / Procedure documents.- Primary technical contact for all technical Due Diligence / Vendor Risk inquiries from clients and prospects.Also, it's worth noting that Novus does not have "corner offices!" While doing all the above, I continued to work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers on product development / support, shipping code changes while managing several product engineers.

Established process for Agile Scrum development and project planning - while continuing to be an individual contributor, building product features and fixing bugs. Moved Novus towards a DevOps culture and towards "continuous deployment" workflow using BitBucket, Bamboo, and pre- and post-deploy testing with Selenium and Postman. Devised and delivered Engineer training plans for rapid on-boarding / productivity of new team members.

Took a left turn from my management-track role at NYSE Technologies to join Novus as a Software Engineer using cutting edge technologies (Scala, MongoDB, HTML5) as part of a fast-moving, dynamic team. Upon joining, recognized that - as a young startup - the technical support process was sorely in need of structure. Established triage, escalation procedures, and SLAs for "P1" issues - along with actually investigating and resolving these issues, acquiring necessary technical skills on-the-job. Developed expertise in Observability tools such as AppDynamics, Zabbix and PagerDuty.

Following NYSE acquisition of TransactTools, moved over to business as a product / technical expert, assisting sales in scoping, pricing and presenting high-technical solutions. Business unit grew from $300k to $3MM recurring revenue in 18 months. Focus primarily on FIX routing hubs and RMG (Risk Management Gateway), which provided pre-trade risk (SEC 15c3-5) compliance for direct market access. Lead team of 4 - 6 engineers in development of FIX gateway product, including solutions for SGX, BMF Bovespa and all major US Equity Markets. Collaborated with multiple organizations acquired by NYSE (SIAC, Wombat, NYFIX) integrating with their teams and technologies. Sent by NYSE to Taiwan (TAIFEX) and Malaysia (Boursa Malaysia / ASEAN conference) as representative Subject Matter Expert on low latency FIX messaging and pre-trade risk technologies. Authored FIX protocol definition for proposed ASEAN trading hub.During this time, I learned the Clojure programming language in my free time, and was able to bring it into a least one project for production use at NYSE.

Joined TransactTools, prior to its acquisition by NYSE Euronext, as a member of its Professional Services team. During my first year with TransactTools, I debugged and enhanced server-side JavaScript "before it was cool" (embedded in Java's Rhino script engine - this was pre-Node.js). Became an expert in both the TransactTools FIX engine and FIX protocol 4.0, 4.2 and 4.4. Lead teams (3 - 4 developers, located in US and UK) in building FIX messaging solutions (gateways and routing hubs) for ThompsonReuters and NYSE. Provided production support (responding to "P1" outages) for TransactTools customers such as BearStearns (later JP Morgan) and Citigroup - primarily troubleshooting latency and performance issues.

Got my foot in the door working in Technology as an MIS analyst at this small, single-branch bank in midtown Manhattan. Given I had no (professional) software experience, I started at the "bottom rung" converting FoxPro reports to Microsoft Access, learning Visual Basic on the job and figuring out legacy DBase code without the benefit of StackOverflow (which didn't exist) or even a printed manual. Occasionally got to work with AS/400, Internet Banking backend and other technologies. Regularly devised, presented and defended analysis reports to the President, both financial and marketing (i.e. web traffic reports from our public web site). During this time, I became a Sun Certified Java 1.4 Developer.

First job out of college. I chose a small start up of < 20 people over a "safe" job offer from a major advertising agency. For two years, made countless cold calls to college book stores, developed marketing campaigns and - after making the sales - worked with printers to get dead trees into Barnes & Noble shelves. As Vault pivoted to "dot com," I discovered that I wanted to work in software, building things.
