ARTIST STATEMENTNoah Xifr creates artwork that is visionary, Symbolic Realism. His art is dark and beautiful, intense and cute. Brushstrokes executed sensitively and graphically invite the viewer to consider psychological themes, including self-awareness, perseverance and triumph. He uses anthropomorphic characters, like a bird demon or flower monster, to explore meaningful acts in haunting environments. He integrates a written poetic language into his artwork, realized using graffiti and calligraphy, to share stories and encourage community building. With paint, markers, and mixed media, he executes inspiring paintings, murals, portraits, children's books, illustrations, combines, sculpture, printmaking and photographs. NARRATIVE BIOBorn in Spain and raised between there and The Bronx, Noah started painting as a child, with swirls, drips and blobs, on large brown craft paper rolls on apartment walls, which became animals, people and monsters in parks and cities. He graduated with a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art, with a major in Painting and Printmaking and a minor in Art History. He is a painter, and has illustrated children’s books, been a graffiti muralist, graphic designer and a marketing consultant for years. Currently, he lives and works in Brooklyn, NY where he has an art studio residency with chashama - Space to Create in the Brooklyn Army Terminal. His art is in collections and has been exhibited at galleries. PAIN FULL NESS 1 VOICE BOXED, his first graphic novel / artist book published this year, a psychological thriller, is the culmination of years of conceptual design.
