Executive Team LeadLight To Life Dec 2019 - 2021Dhaka,BangladeshIt is estimated that 15 million people in Bangladesh suffer from a variety of mental health illnesses. For the past 2 and half years a group of Active Citizens are delivering the social action project Light to Life, which aims to raise awareness about issues surrounding mental health and well-being. The project focuses on youth (15-29), encouraging innovative ways of addressing mental health within universities, urban & rural communities. The Active Citizens designed a workshop to raise awareness and provide a supportive environment for youth and students, sharing the knowledge of emotional intelligence (EQ) and mental first aid. 120 Active Citizens and over 625 volunteers have connected with the project from 7 different universities. As a result, 1200 people have directly benefited from the project, gaining access to workshops and learning more about mental health & emotional intelligence issues. Light to Life got the Joy Bangla Youth Award 201Recently we received the Joy Bangla Youth Award 2018 in Community Development Category among 2500 other organisations all over the Bangladesh. Drive link for video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ymp18wnqlzrzQ0LVe4TA-htMtdyE6s18/view We are focused on ending mental health stigma, and creating a comfortable environment for open conversations about mental health issues. As an organisation, we have come to understand the importance of stories in challenging inbred notions about mental health issues, especially when the stories come from those with lived experience. This is what our campaigns revolve around and we can already see the change in attitude that has occurred as a result of this.We also work to increase awareness of mental health issues, by providing simplified and easy to read resources both offline and via social media (where the bulk of our target population can be found). We also encourage people to seek help as soon as it is needed, and serve to connect young people to appropriate mental health services.
