/Winner of the 2016 Summer Visiting Researcher Grant./Analysing over 500k firms' balance sheet data for the project: “Firm-level Fluctuations and the Density of Economic Activity.”This project empirically investigates the role of the density of economic activity on firm-level sales and employment growth fluctuations using Hungarian balance sheet data of manufacturing firms over the period of 2000-2008. I estimate a significantly negative elasticity of firm sales and employment volatility with respect to local economic density employing firm fixed effects and instrumental variables techniques. More stable sales and employment growth in denser areas can be explained by the proximity of potential local input providers and having access to a deeper labor market pool.

/Data analysis regarding the project "Microeconomic Origins of Aggregate Fluctuations."This project investigates the role of activities by Hungarian firms in generating aggregate fluctuations for the time period of 2000-2013. The paper decomposes aggregated sales volatility into a macro-sectoral and firm-specific component and found that shocks to individual firms significantly contribute to aggregate fluctuations. The relative contribution of idiosyncratic shocks to sales volatility at aggregate level is 55.5% for the whole economy and 56.4% for the manufacturing sector. The main mechanism through which firm fluctuations manifest themselves into aggregate fluctuations are input-output linkages.
