About Nsbe At Iowa State
The student chapter of The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) at the Iowa State University was chartered in the 1980s due to strong student interest in promoting the goals of the national organization on campus. Since then, the Iowa State chapter has become a strong organization on campus with individuals receiving recognition both in the ISU College of Engineering and beyond. In partnership with the Leadership through Engineering Academic Diversity (LEAD) Program and learning community, NSBE plays an important role on the University campus in the areas of recruitment, retention, and motivation of successful underrepresented engineers.At the 31th National Convention held in Boston, MA (March 2005), our chapter won the Region 5 Small Chapter of Year Award. Our chapter has also had the distinguished opportunity to host at the 2005 Regional Leadership Conference at Iowa State. During the 2006 Fall Regional Conference (FRC) our chapter’s Academic Tech Bowl team placed 1st in the competition and competed at Nationals. Our chapter was recognized with a variety of awards such as Medium-Sized Chapter of the Year in Region 5 and LEAD Outstanding Student Organization award. We were also recognized for having the most activities in the Missouri Zone in 2005 and 2006. At the 35th annual National Convention in Las Vegas (March 2009), our chapter received an award for Regional Medium Chapter of the Year.During the 2012 Region 5 Fall Regional Conference our chapter received 2nd place in the Engineering Olympics. We have a long history at Iowa State and received an award at the 39th annual National Convention (March, 2013) for being THE FIRST AND ONLY chapter in Region 5 to attend the first National Convention for NSBE in 1975. In this upcoming year we will continue to develop leaders and strive for further success on all fronts: local, regional, national, and international.
