Hi, I'm Nathan, a people-friendly software engineer focused on the front-end. I've been writing code for almost two decades and have enough full-stack experience to know where I shouldn't commit something.I'm currently at ServiceNow, coding-up their enterprise business workflow software (it's a healthy mixture of JS and Java) as part of a growing engineering team here in Chicago. In my previous role we used React and Node to build a classy, client-facing UI, and I also have plenty of experience in other front-end libraries. In my spare time I'm usually pecking away on personal projects, keeping my CSS skills fresh, testing out new ECMA features, and dabbling in the latest front-end framework fads.Before I slipped comfortably into a corporate job, I spent more than 15 years as a small business owner with a passion for coaching soccer, and was fortunate to find success in both areas.In the early 2000's, as a young collegiate soccer coach with software development experience (a not-so-common combination of skills), I began a SaaS business to help college coaches handle their recruiting information. The fruits of those labors was TEAMDesktop, a comprehensive office and team management program utilized by coaches in more than thirty sports and at every level of collegiate athletics. For a tech-savvy soccer coach, the recruiting software market was the perfect marriage of my two primary interests.And still I managed to stay involved on the field, coaching collegiately at my alma mater, UNCG, as well as Iona College, Duke University, Columbia University, St. John's University in NYC. I also had a few stints with professional teams, including the Chicago Red Stars (WPS & NWSL), the Boston Breakers (WPS), and New Jersey Sky Blue (NWSL). I feel fortunate to have been able to pursue coaching while running a business. Early in my coaching career I was able to carve out a niche by applying a non-traditional skill (web programming) for someone in my field. And by simultaneously chasing opportunities in both areas, I developed a unique ability to collaborate, serve, and influence those I work with, be they colleagues, clients, coaches, or players on my team.
