Direction of the Health Services Division of Sharp Community Medical Group, an entity of Sharp Healthcare and the largest independent physician association in San Diego County consisting of 900+ physicians. Developed and implemented a comprehensive clinical training and staff development program to facilitate a new care management strategy. Initiated diabetes and heart failure care management programs resulting in a 15% improvement in blood sugar control for our patients and a reduction in hospital admissions and emergency room visits. Supported implementation of a revised customer satisfaction strategy including use of the Press-Ganey satisfaction survey and a dedicated full-time employee to focus organizational improvements in customer satisfaction resulting in state-wide recognition as one of the top 20 medical groups in the state for patient satisfaction in 2006. Implemented an Inpatient Care Management Program resulting in a 35% improvement in inpatient bed day utilization.

Responsible for management of the Utilization Management, Quality Management and Health Promotion Programs for the University’s Medicare and Medicaid (MediCal) Health Plan. Assisted in establishing the only university-affiliated provider network as part of a Medicare Plus Choices Demonstration Project which generated in excess of $6 million annually. Developed and implemented standardized metrics for patient care delivery via a quarterly dashboard report incorporating clinical quality and preventive health care standards, patient satisfaction, utilization and financial efficiency. Ensured compliance with various regulatory and legislative standards, i.e. Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services, State of California Department of Health Services, State of California Department of Managed Health Care; and numerous operational policy letters, i.e. Quality Improvement System for Managed Care (QISMC), Appeals and Grievance Reporting Requirements, etc.
