Chronic pain conditions and pain interference are more common among those with lower socioeconomic status. The mechanisms that explain these health inequities remain largely unknown but structural socioeconomic disadvantages likely play a role. Financial hardship, such as food insecurity, is a unique social risk factor that can affect health above and beyond other social determinants of health like education and income. However, the impact of financial hardship on pain is not well established. Given the paucity of research about financial hardship and pain, the aim of this study is to systematically assess the size and scope of available evidence concerning the association of financial hardship with pain, including chronic pain, pain interference, and pain severity.Findings from this scoping literature review will provide a framework for studying social determinants of pain, highlight approaches for assessing financial hardship status, and give insights of potential underlying mechanisms that contribute to the greater burden of chronic pain conditions and pain among those with lower socioeconomic status.

Researching the "Role of novel gene variants in lipodystrophy and atypical diabetes."Loss of fat tissues (lipodystrophy) is found in patients with lipid disorders and atypical diabetes. Our group's effort identified a few gene variants in patients with lipodystrophy, which may act as pathogenic variants that interfere with normal adipose tissue development and expansion. Using in vitro adipocyte differentiation models and mouse models harboring the gene variants, we aim to define the genetic mechanism of lipodystrophy and atypical diabetes.
