As a performance test engineer I am responsible for increasing the breadth and depth of the performance testing capabilities for the software we ship to customers. This relies on a strong knowledge of Apache JMeter to simulate how customers around the world use Vista software every day. There is also a strong emphasis on problem solving, where there may be a clear objective of what needs to be measured, but the route to get there could be complex and unclear.With performance becoming of greater importance to software development in the world of cloud and hybrid infrastructure, my role also requires that I am able to speak with a variety of stakeholders and translate "performance jargon" into simpler terms to help Vista make better data driven decisions.

I am responsible for the consistent testing and delivery of shippable code for web products that are used around the world every day by cinema managers. This has led to many opportunities to learn and practice rigorous manual testing practices as well as CICD pipeline development, automation testing suites and testing - tangential skills such as performance engineering.

Expanding upon my software support role, I have become specialized in the treatment and resolution of difficult issues that customers have faced where standard resolution pathways have failed.My main area of specialization alongside specific products within Vista's software ecosystem, has been database performance. I am regularly tasked with the investigation and resolution of difficult SQL database performance issues including maintenance plan design and implementation, index tuning, query tuning, query plan analysis, locking and waitstate behaviour analysis and resource management on the server.I utilise a variety of technologies to help achieve this. I have become proficient with commercial technologies such as Sql Server Management Studio, Microsoft Power Platform (PowerBI and Power Automate), Tableau and SentryOne. I have also gained proficiency with free technologies such as Windows Performance Analyser, PerfView, Windows Performance Monitor and self-created scripts in PowerShell and CMD to build programs that can assist the collection and analysis of data.

This was heavily customer facing so required a large proficiency in verbal and written communication.Beyond knowledge in the operation of the software, I learned to be proficient and self-reliant on various aspects of customer environments and networks.
