I love to throw myself head-first into challenges. In line with this I have switched my field from science (completing a masters degree in physics at Otago) to software.My favourite challenges are ones that I can get stuck into and only finish with once a satisfactory resolution has been found. Often these are challenges that have many moving parts and my background in science has instilled the belief that following the scientific method of investigation is a way of thinking that can be extended well past the realm of science alone.Leaning into the challenges presented has exposed me to a wide range of problems across multiple disciplines as well as exposed me to a wide range of products, software, ideas and concepts that are often cited to help resolve those problems. This has lead to enjoyable forays into areas such as business intelligence, software engineering, database administration, application support and data science / machine learning alongside the field of performance engineering that my current role resides in.Years of debating, stand-up comedy performance and scientific outreach have honed my spoken communication into a witty tool that I leverage to describe both the problem and what I believe its solution might be to a range of key stakeholders in any situation, irrespective of their technical knowledge on the subject.
