About Jamie O'Brien
I am dedicated to challenging and inspiring my students daily. I cultivate an interactive classroom environment. I employ case studies to delve into complex management problems. Second, I foster an engaging environment that sparks intellectual curiosity and deep understanding. I infuse my classes with passion through humour and storytelling, drawing on my industry experience to connect theory with real-world applications. My industry experience, which allows me to connect a student question about an abstract topic to a real-world example, greatly enhances their understanding. Third, I emphasise practical, real-world applications, ensuring students can apply theoretical concepts to their everyday lives and future careers. I want students to leave my classroom and be able to apply what they have learned to their own lives and to their next internship or job. I integrate industry projects by inviting local companies to class, enabling students to solve real business problems.My research focuses on the psychological effects of change on individuals and organisations. I also explore knowledge management in organisations. In addition, I write pedagogical case studies in the area of organisational behaviour and strategy for use in undergraduate and graduate classes. My cases have been recognised internationally, have been published in The Case Journal, are used in his organisational behaviour classes at the graduate and undergraduate level. In this way, I bring my research into the classroom in very intentional ways. I have published over 20 journal articles and cases in the “Case Journal”, “The Journal of Service Theory and Practice”, “The Journal of Information and Knowledge Management,” “Knowledge Management: An International Journal,” “Vine: The Journal of Information and Knowledge Management Systems,” “The Electronic Journal of Knowledge Management” and others.I have delivered over 40 lectures and workshops on topics such as 'Cognitive Bias and Decision Making' and 'Strategies for Dealing With Change.I am also a member of professional associations including: Management & Organisational Behaviour Teaching Society, The Academy of Management, and the Organisational Studies Research Network.
