As a member of the DeSCENT (Demonstration of Suborbital ChipSats Ejected from New Shepard Test Flight) mission team, I actively contribute to research at the convergence of space exploration and technology. This collaborative project between Cornell University’s Space System Design Studio and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory aims to conduct the inaugural test of ChipSat deployment from a reusable commercial launch vehicle. My responsibilities include participating in the design and testing of the ChipSat Deployer, ensuring its mechanical integrity and functionality for successful deployment. Additionally, I provide insights and recommendations for ongoing improvements to the ChipSat Deployer's design and mechanism. Through this research, I play a vital role in advancing chip-scale satellite technology and its potential applications in atmospheric data collection and beyond.
