I am a partner specialising in regulatory compliance and risk particularly in the fields of product safety, environment, health & safety, food, ESG and consumer law. I provide a wide-range of compliance advice from the application of the law and guidance to a practical and risk-based view on how your business can achieve regulatory compliance.I am a litigator by background and have a lot of experience managing regulatory investigations and defending enforcement action and prosecutions from Trading Standards, the Food Standards Agency, Environmental Health, the Competition and Markets Authority (consumer division), the Environment Agency and the OPSS (as well as a few less well-know regulators!). Notable cases include the Buncefield Fire and Explosion, defending Marks & Spencer in an 11-week trial on asbestos, leaseholder reform investigations by the CMA, online fake reviews investigation by the CMA, defending and prosecuting for Severn Trent Water for breaches of consents and water contamination issues.Businesses come to me when they need help on product composition, labelling or packaging and often when they are seeking to launch into new markets. My work includes advising on supply chain management, traceability and safety of product. I have a developed technical food law practice advising on labelling, health & nutrition claims, alternative meat/dairy, supplements and foods for specific groups (ranked in Band 1, Chambers). I also advise on cosmetics, detergents, apparel and products requiring CE-marking (toys, machines, electrical products, etc). I advise on technology products including IOT, drones and additive manufacturing (3D printing).I co-lead the OC Global Compliance team and advise businesses on compliance systems. Specifically I conduct gap analysis, risk assessments and audits to support businesses who have a concern about how compliance generally is addressed and implemented in their organisation, bringing in subject-matter experts as appropriate. I also regularly train and advise Boards on compliance culture, risk and personal liability.
