I consider myself a "people" person, which according to google dictionary is someone who enjoys, or is particularly good at, interacting with others. I think it's true, although others who know me may beg to differ. I have run large organizations over the years and have always enjoyed the cultural element of creating and being part of an effective, happy, and high performing team. I love working with people who have a different personality type to me, and especially those who are smart. I have met so many smart people in my time.As a veteran of the technology world, and life in general, I started work in the days when a water cooled IBM mainframe ran batched jobs to ultimately create reports on paper which needed to be delivered to the trading floor by 7am in the morning. My job which consisted of taking the paper off the back of a printer, splitting it, and putting it in a red bag for the messenger to deliver.. was hugely gratifying, even on a 12 hour shift. However, my destiny was management, and I have had the privilege to have 1000's of people working with me over the years running Infrastructure services and building Data Centres. On opting out of the corporate world, I have been able to work on the other (sell) side of the industry, 2 consultancies and now with an unstructured data management software company.... it's a very different world and I now understand how those poor sales people I left sitting in the lobby before cancelling a meeting felt.. as it now happens to meWhatever my title I love to tell stories, most of which I am sure have become embellished over the yearsLove sports, trying to get fit, family time, no hobbies, can't see me retiring any time soon as I enjoy what I do and the circles I move in.
