It included researchers from all the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries as well as Austria, Germany, Latvia, Netherlands, Slovenia and was financed by the EU Commission.I wrote a country report in which analyzed the current state of the Ukrainian agricultural sector, defined its potential and outlined the obstacles for the development. I assembled a database of all agrarian statistics available from the Ukrainian statistical committee, translated it into English and published it online. Besides this, I worked as a research assistant for the members of the consortium. Together we:- Developed a system of interconnected statistical models: a partial equilibrium model, a biophysical model and a model of general equilibrium. With this tool we analyzed scenarios of agricultural sector development in Ukraine;- Conducted a comparative analysis of the agricultural policies of the CIS countries;- Analyzed the supply chain of leading agricultural products;- Using the satellite data determined the area of unused agricultural land in Ukraine;- Identified the yield growth potential for wheat, sunflower, and other crops. AGMEMOD is a system of interlinked models that represent the agricultural sector of each of the EU member states. Model is used by the EU Commission and the German Federal Agricultural Ministry to evaluate the outcomes of changes in the agricultural policy, for instance, changes in the Common Agricultural Policy.Our team used a micro-level firm-specific data to add the cost of production and different types of producers to the model. Currently Ukrainian model is the only one of the AGMEMOD country models that have such features. Together with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, we estimated the baseline scenario for the agricultural sector using the model. The analysis showed a colossal inefficiency of the direct subsidies to the farmers and is used as an argument in favor of restructuring them.As a project leader, I derived more than 500 equations that constitute the model, maintained communication between our team, the Thuenen Institute, and Ukrainian Statistical Committee, and presented our results to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and other stakeholders.
