I have undergone higher education based around mathematics, physics and chemistry. My native language is Russian, which I studied formally for 10 years at school and have taught/teach it both voluntarily and semi-professionally throughout my life. At university, I helped students from other countries and republics (e.g. Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Moldova, Estonia, Latvia and Georgia), who were studying with me and for whom Russian language was a second or third language, thus they needed to improve their Russian language in order to study. This also gave me valuable practice in understanding different cultures, languages and various teaching methods for young people of different backgrounds, languages and religions. I studied a number of new methods of teaching a foreign language for adults including the specifics of memorisation, which I now use when teaching Russian semi-professionally. My students include young children studying for exams, pensioners interested in widening their language skills and even young adults with learning difficulties such as dyslexia. From this, I have also developed a deep interest in psychology.I have travelled widely around the republics of the former Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact countries and clearly understand how important it is to be able to adapt to various cultural environments, plus how important it is to study the language of the country in which you reside. I further understand that it is important to set goals in learning - for example in learning English when moving to the UK. The teaching methodology can be individual - college, private lessons, individual courses – this will depend on the individual needs, abilities and resources of the individual. I am quite sure that anybody can achieve success in learning new skills, including a new language, but it is important to choose the right approach for the needs of the individual;This past year, (2021-22), I have spent much of my spare time formally refreshing my English and Maths skills as I wish to receive recognised English STEM certificates and also to make further in-roads into the UK educational system.I enjoy reading and leaning new subjects, swimming, socialising and keeping up with current affairs.As well as Russian, I speak English and some Ukrainian, whilst holding dual citizenship of the UK and the Russian Federation.
