Offshore Electrical Technician

North Sea

SMS and SHELLDuring my time with the company I worked on various offshore projects on barges, drilling rigs and production platforms in the North sea. I have been integral to various projects and shutdowns involving a wide scope of work including containment systems, cable routing, glanding and terminating Exe and Exd equipment, intrinsically safe circuits, inspections and trace heating. As well as the many upgrade projects SMS regularly sent me to the Sean P Gas platform where I supplied holiday cover for the core crew. This involved inspections of Ex equipment, battery testing and maintenance, routine checks of lighting and small power. In addition to this I have carried out fault finding tasks on motor controls, mineraly insulated circuits and 24v communication systems. During this time I expanded my knowledge of the permit system and shell electrical safety rules. With my experience on these various offshore installations I was graded as a CEP A in the clipper field and a CEP C in the Sean field.

Electrical Technician Atex Inspector

Bacton Gas Terminal

Atex inspector /elec techMy work onsite involved terminating Exe and Exd equipment, cable glanding and pulling in cables. I was responsible for the installation of containment systems. Due to the proximity of the gas terminal, which is a valuable and potentially dangerous asset, all the work is closely monitored and has to be covered by a very strict permit to work system. With that in mind, attention to detail and working with accuracy were key to this role.
