I’m a problem-solving brain for hire. I love to help solve people problems, perception problems, system problems, linguistic problems, and mechanical problems. Why not try me? I’m happy to informally (but privately) discuss things so you can see whether you like my approach, and so I can tell you honestly whether I think I’ll be able to help. I can only work due to my reputation, so I’m not willing to risk that by accepting a contract I can’t fulfil, or where I don’t believe I'll add value.My weird gift is that I can look at a machine or system and understand it quickly and intuitively, and then build on and use that knowledge to improve or fix it. I love cars and other mechanical systems, and used to race karts at club level, but it sadly no longer fits with my lifestyle.I’m creative too, having written a couple of passably good poems and contest-winning flash fiction – along with a lot of utter drivel (I have teachers’ comments to prove that latter point).I’m good at explaining things to people in terms that they can naturally relate to.I’m good at saying “I don’t know” and asking questions to rectify that.I don't work well alone - I get inside my head and get stuck in loops of nil progression. I like to bounce ideas with a partner or team as I've found this to really unlock creativity.I understand businesses, having spent 3 years restructuring them, 12 years analysing them, and at more than 3 years running them so far. I've found this combines well with my mechanical and system-based problem solving, because it means I’ll always consider the potential costs and returns as an intrinsic part of the solution itself. It's sadly too easy to fall in love with an idea that doesn't pay its way.I’m terrible at writing LinkedIn intros. They either sound bland or arrogant.
