- Successfully applied for and received the Marks Endowment Fellowship through the LA Jewish Federation- Lived with an intentional community of Jewish activists to help build a movement focused on solidarity between Jews and Palestinians- Trained in restorative justice, non-violent communication, peace building dialogue, and conflict mediation

-Worked directly with leading Israeli human rights activist, Rabbi Arik Ascherman, to strategize grassroots actions in Israel/Palestine- Wrote weekly Torah sermons with an interpretative emphasis on human rights and social justice- Developed media campaign to raise awareness of increased housing evictions in East Jerusalem

As a recipient of the Goffe Wesleyan Summer Experience Fund, I conducted a year long research project that explores how IKAR, a spiritual Jewish community in Los Angeles, fosters an expansive Judaism that empowers congregants to perform their Jewish selves. In this ethnography, I describe how IKAR expands traditional conceptions of the American synagogue, Shabbat practice, and ritual performance to promote a revitalized Judaism for a community of people on a scale of religious observance. IKAR integrates secular and religious components, and traditional and non-conventional ritual forms within their Shabbat practice. By disrupting the separation between secular and religious, and the categories of Jewishness themselves, IKAR enables members from a diversity of Jewish backgrounds to find meaning in Judaism and belonging to IKAR.
