Sustainable Development volunteer for Raleigh International as part of the government-led International Citizen Service (ICS) programme. I worked on a 12 week, tailor-made project in a rural Nicaraguan community that centred around improving the livelihoods of all those within the community in a sustainable manner. Focal points for the project included creating sustainable businesses and therefore communities for the years to come, in addition to improving access to education, clean water, hygiene and sanitation systems and mitigating the effects of climate change in the area. Raleigh work in partnership with their Nicaraguan counterpart charity to deliver the most successful results, and within each community there is an even split of UK Volunteers and In-Country Volunteers.

During my two and a half month internship with Johannah, I assisted her on a number of assignments with her UN, NGO and academic clients including the following: 1). The completion of an evaluation of UNEP's Major Groups and Stakholders Branch. I was responsible for substantive research and final editing. 2).The conducting of a series of interviews with representatives from national governments and UNEP for an evaluation of UNEP's work supporting regional Ministerial Forums. I also took the lead in preparing the first draft of the evaluation report. 3). The preparation of lecture notes for a class on impact investing that Johannah taught at Duke University's summer programme in Geneva on Global Policy and Governance. 4). The preparation of a concept note on a photography and sculpture exhibition on threatened glaciers in Switzerland, This included researching key artists and incorporating my university-level knowledge on the impacts of climate change on glaciers. 5). The preparation of an investment teaser on a small company who has developed Low Concentrating Photovoltaic Technology which is particularly suited for High Irradiance geographies. 6). The preparation of a list of donor government funders for an innovative area based conservation approach.In addition, I accompanied Johannah to regular meetings with her clients in Geneva and assisted in all aspects preparation for these meetings. In addition, we participated in several events organised by the Geneva Environment Network which were held at International Environment House, Geneva.

This included trips external to the lycée, such as to the local Fromagerie.

Three week teaching visit to China (Hengshui, Hebei Province) on behalf of Sir Roger Manwood's School. This involved teaching conversational English in the Summer School Department of Hengshui High School to a class of 28 students aged between 14 and 16. My day was broken into five classes of 40 minutes. During my time in China, I managed also to have the opportunity to visit Beijing and various other sites of national interest.
