I take care of animals for several neighbors. They trust me with their keys and homes when they are away.

During my time at OrthoNC, I was placed with different orthopedic specialists like the ankle and foot specialists, pain management, nonoperative spine, knee, and shoulder, and I was placed in Urgent Care as well. During my time in each specialty I was able to learn how to communicate with the patient, and transport them to their clinical room, how to take the patient's history, teamwork and time management skills, and protocols for specific medical procedures. My biggest learning experiences came from working with the foot and ankle team, the nonoperative spine team, and Urgent Care. The foot and ankle team consisted of the doctor and his medical assistant, who both spoke Spanish. They received a lot of Spanish-speaking patients, so I was able to use my bilingual skills to translate and interpret for them. I was also able to learn a lot from the spine specialist team because I shadowed an amazing nurse practitioner there. I went with her into the patient's rooms, and observe the examination of the patient, she would then ask me for my input on good diagnoses, or treatments of the patients. Here I was able to learn a lot about anatomical and psychological aspects of diagnosis. The place where I spent most of my time was in the Urgent Care facility, where we would receive any kind of patient and had to be ready to provide any type of treatment. Here I was also able to work with another amazing Nurse Practitioner and help with anything that she needed, especially with something like measuring basic vital signs for physical evaluations. Overall my experience at OrthoNC was very memorable because of the dedication of the professionals who taught me so much, and the number of skills I gained in a patient environment.
