Olyvia Hoban has a lifelong passion for integrating athletics into all aspects of life, advocating for inclusivity, and striving to be a proficient leader. Hoban is a 2024 graduate from the University of Calgary obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in Dance. Through her academic journey, she has engaged in diverse coursework that delved into dance pedagogy and facilitating dance classes. She had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Sarah Kenny about safe dance practice, various methods/approaches to optimizing training, and injury prevention. In addition to her formal dance education, she brings over ten years of experience as a competitive dancer with an elite studio in Calgary, Alberta. Various disciplines trained in include Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Modern, Lyrical, and Acro. Hoban has achieved proficiency up to the Advanced Ballet Exam level with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), and continued training in Advanced One and Two. Currently, she is active in the Calgary dance and youth community. She works with Jumping Jellies as a Movement Instructor throughout the city at various Day Centre’s. Additionally, she is a dance teacher and choreographer with Diversity Dance and Performing Arts facilitating Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, and children's dance introductory classes. While she has spent much of her life dancing and will continue to do so, she has been extensively involved in the Canadian football scene as a highly trained equipment specialist. From 2019 to 2024, she served as the Equipment Manager for the University of Calgary Dinos Football team. In 2022, Hoban was selected by the BC Lions as an Assistant Equipment Manager through the CFL KPMG Women in Football mentorship program. In the 2022 season, Hoban visited various CFL teams on their game days supporting with equipment operations; BC Lions, Toronto Argonauts, and the Calgary Stampeders. Following the 2022 season, in 2023 she began working for the Calgary Stampeders as a Game Day Equipment Assistant and continues to do so. In the summer of 2024, Hoban was acquired by Football Canada to join the Team Canada 2 U20 Junior National (Tackle Football) Team as the Equipment Manager. As Hoban emerges into the professional world, she aspires to become involved in new areas where her skills can be best utilized. Her number one priority is the student’s and athlete’s health and safety. Both her dance and football experiences have taught Hoban the importance of recognizing the well-being of the athlete/student in such environments.
