Growing up, I would always question why people reacted the way they did to certain situations. My mom always told me "to listen with my heart, but talk with my brain." Not only did this spark my interest to understand people, but it also made me aware that people react differently to different outcomes. Consequently, my interest in understanding human behavior and the way we think arose from this constant curiosity I had, which was imposed by my mom.As a first-generation college graduate, I have come to understand why my parents react differently to stressful situations. In my field of study, I was fascinated to know how people's behaviors can be attributed to past experiences or just differences in their genetic makeup. Due to this, I came to the realization how being emotionally intelligent has helped me not only understand myself but also those around me. I have developed a passion to not only think critically, which is composed of logic, but to also apply theory of mind principles. Due to my interest in neuropsychology and molecular bio, I have been seen to apply concepts that explain how our genetic makeup and surrounding environment affects who we are and who we become.All of these things have made me want to pursue a career where communication, emotional intelligence, and behavioral-psychology play a tremendous role. Because at the end of the day, it is understanding people through these social interactions that led to the success of many establishments.
