I was able to utilize vendors' willingness to assist potential customers to help me select the appropriate pump for my application, recover lost equipment data, and obtain the best price. This sped up the process and taught me how to utilize my resources efficiently . I was given the freedom to explore different methods to tackle problems which gave me the opportunity to further develop my communication skills by introducing me to the art of negotiating. The challenge of not having a formal mentor was a blessing in disguise. In the end, I was able to develop a strong relationship with the operations team and an informal engineering mentor to assist me with the successful completion of my assigned tasks.

Challenges included managerial changes, working through a turnaround, and this being my first engineering work experience. Even with these challenges, I was still able to successfully complete my assigned tasks and contribute to the turnaround. I led safety walkabouts, assisted in vessel inspections, and performed daily housecleaning to ensure there were no items that could disrupt workflow. I did more learning than anything else while working with Lyondellbasell. I learned how important it is to earn the trust of operations, I fine tuned my communication skills, and I furthered my understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals.
