CurrentThis year, my main project is a sprocket redesign for our chain-driven rear axle. I used OptimumLap for lap simulations to determine the best final drive ratio to maximize our competition score while accounting for constraints such vehicle packaging. I then calculated and applied load cases into Altair Inspire to complete a topology optimization for the sprocket. I used OptimumLap for lap simulations to determine the best final drive ratio to maximize our competition score while accounting for constraints such vehicle packaging. I then calculated and applied load cases into Altair Inspire to complete a topology optimization for the sprocket. Finally, I completed extensive FEA to analyze and create iterations of my design to minimize stress concentration, fatigue, and mass. I have also been working with one of my teammates on testing a new compact radiator for our vehicle’s cooling system. Our goal this year is to see similar cooling data to our previous year with a radiator that is approximately half the surface area and mass. Some of our tests include benchtop testing with a custom built setup that uses a propane tank to mimic operating temperatures, as well as testing with the radiator on our vehicle during test days.
