I work with a student-led biotech incubator to aid academics in spinning out exciting new biotechnology ventures.

I connect Aila Biotech with VC firms and investors to raise seed funding for one of the most promising novel therapies for traumatic brain injury, diabetes, and lung inflammation.

In the Quezada lab, under the supervision of Dr Alvin Lee, I am working on a bladder cancer project with two main aims. (1) Characterising and establishing urine-derived lymphocytes as a window to the immunological state of the tumour microenvironment (throughout immunotherapy treatment), and (2) establishing patient-derived bladder organoids as model systems to bladder cancer and its treatment.

In the Midwood lab, under the supervision of Dr Anja Schwnezer, I worked as a proteomics bioinformatician in an industry-funded project aimed at uncovering potential prognostic/diagnostic plasma proteins in pancreatic cancer patients. Using Python, R, several RNA/proteomic-specific software, and a number of third-party cancer datasets (as well as our own), I identified a number of significant prognostic signatures. This formed one of the core components of our findings.

Under the supervision of Dr Graeme Cowan, I aimed to characterise non-canonical recombination events in the generation of antibody diversity in hyper-endemic malarial regions. Through creating a bioinformatics pipeline using Linux, Python, (IgBLAST), and a few other packages, I was able to map and define novel genetic recombination events in the antibody repertoire of a Ghanian population. My thesis on the subject was graded 80%.

I used UV-vis spectophotometery to analyse various dilutions of antibiotically treated bacterial samples. This was to determine the ratios of DNA:RNA:Proteins. The rest of my time was spent analysing the data and having weekly meetings with my supervisors to discuss what could be inferred from the results.
