Data Warehouse Developer
• At Kelkoo I was responsible for two data warehouses holding information on website usage and revenue and cost. The warehouses are very large - five of the tables grow by over 800,000 rows each daily. The largest grows by 85 million rows a day. Because of the size of the tables, I learnt a lot about partitioning as well as loading and maintaining an incremental data warehouse. My SSIS skills improved substantially here as I used it extensively. I occasionally wrote reports in SSRS, provided data feeds and gave information to users.• Part of my job involves adding new information into the warehouse: designing the schema and writing the ETL. I spent a large part of my time performance-tuning existing parts of the ETL load. I also completed a refactoring project to slim down the size of the main tables as they were unnecessarily wide. This also involved rebuilding the main parts of the ETL. I managed to get the nightly load down from 12 hours to under 3. • My role included administrating the databases, which involved keeping statistics up to date and creating backups and differential backups, compressing partitions and defragmenting indexes. I create new databases and assign extra space and files to old ones. I also carried out DBA tasks such as moving older data to slower drives and splitting Fact tables that have become too large etc. • I upgraded our main server to SQL Server 2012, performing the testing of all the SSIS packages and necessary development work. For example, a custom SCD component wasn't available in 2012, so I re-wrote those sections of functionality using common components.• I also maintained and added to, two SSAS cubes.
Database Developer
I've built a data warehouse using SSIS, pulling data out of three different SQL databases, an access source and some spreadsheets. I've also built a Suite of SSRS reports that mainly run off the database, but I've now started writing statements against the SSAS cube that I have built. I'm currently expanding the data warehouse, and writing more reports. I've also built a report in ASP.NET using c# and AJAX (that I designed myself, i.e. not controls).
Senior Developer
Freshfields is the fourth largest law firm in the world and a member of the 'Magic Circle' of London law firms. My main area of responsibility was the development of systems facilitating the amalgamation, extraction and presentation of information and data from the firm's finance systems. Create, enhance and support reports for the large (>200) suite of reports for the firm-wide practice management system produced in Reporting Services and Crystal Reports. These reports rely on long, complex stored procedures to query the extensive back end of the practice management system in SQL Server and the Data Warehouse. Reports produced included financial information such as billing (sales), work in progress, debt and client account balances. Management reports including time and headcount. Reports were also produced for the bill room to help with the billing process.Created a Data Warehouse of financial information in SQL Server 2005 utilising SSIS and SSAS.Liaised closely with various members of the finance team, bill room and reports team to determine their needs for reports and data and to check that the final solution met their needs.Completed the upgrade of the reporting subsystem, a VB COM+ three tier application. I also created functionality for the reporting subsystem to produce Reporting Services reports.Create complex ad hoc queries to gather data as required for the finance department.Maintain and enhance two MS Access databases, both containing financial data.Developed websites in C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server and carry out ongoing maintenance and enhancements to legacy websites.Created feeds between the practice management system and other internal systems using DTS and SSIS packages.Work autonomously to enhance, support and fully document the firm's billing templates in Word2000 and VBA through which all paper bills are generated for all offices.Designed and built the Deeds Registry System, which enables the tracking of physical documents.
